Membership in the NATO Grand Priory

The NATO Grand Priory of OSMTH brings together qualified members who share a commitment to ecumenical Christian faith, chivalrous conduct, international fellowship, peacebuilding, and humanitarian service. As the supranational Grand Priory within OSMTH, GP NATO has a particular connection to the NATO, NATO partner and multinational military communities.

Membership is understood as a commitment rather than a title: a vocation of service, responsibility, and fellowship within the ideals of OSMTH and the historic tradition of the Order.

Who May Be Considered

Candidates for ordinary membership must meet the formal eligibility requirements of GP NATO. A prospective candidate must:

  • be of Christian faith and actively support Christian values;
  • support the ecumenical idea of OSMTH;
  • be of high moral character and possess chivalrous ideals;
  • be, or have been, a reserve or active commissioned or warrant officer from a NATO country, a NATO partner country, or a country that has supported a NATO, EU or UN multinational military mission;
  • have participated in at least two CIOR, CIOMR or CISOR congresses, or in one NATO/EU/UN multinational military mission;
  • have participated actively in the mandatory part of the GP NATO Academy or attended a GP NATO sanctioned event as a guest.
Recommendation and Sponsorship

Admission to GP NATO is by recommendation and review. A prospective candidate must normally be recommended by at least two Knight Commanders or Dame Commanders from the candidate’s national Priory or Commandery.

If no relevant national Priory or Commandery exists, or if the national body does not have two Knight or Dame Commanders available, the candidate may be recommended by two Knight or Dame Commanders from another Priory or Commandery, acting as sponsor and seconder.
